Implemented Projects of the Microfilming and Digitisation of Periodicals

The programmes of microfilming and digitisation that have been implemented so far have focused on those parts of the collection of the periodicals from the Slavonic Library that are unique and rare, form in their complexity the bases of the Slavonic Library collections and are not preserved in any other library of the world in similar extent and entirety. This concerns two types of periodicals:
  • Journals and newspapers published by Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian émigrés in Czechoslovakia in 1918–1945.
  • Newspapers from the collection of the former Russian Historical Archives Abroad (a unique archive and documentary institution of interwar Czechoslovakia). These chiefly include titles from the period of the Civil War in Russia (mostly from 1917–1922), newspapers published on the territory of the former Soviet Union during the Nazi occupation in 1941–1945, and newspapers published by Russian and Ukrainian émigrés all over the world between 1918 and 1945.

So far, 1,050 titles of periodicals (approximately 370,000 pages) have been microfilmed, out of which 255 titles have subsequently been digitised.
