Cataloguing at the National Library of the Czech Republic

General characteristics

The charge of the cataloguing divisions of the National Library is to create records for all materials, which are currently acquired by the Library. All records are in MARC 21, and they use AACR2, Czech authority files, Konspekt and UDC. The largest unit and also the promulgator of cataloguing policies is the National Bibliography and Cataloguing Division. However, cataloguing is done also in other, semi-independent units of the National Library:
  • Slavonic Library,
  • Manuscripts and Incunabula Department,
  • Library Science Department,
  • Serials Department.
Besides cataloguing all currently published and received materials, the National Library is also heavily engaged in retrospective conversion: The National Library publishes the Czech National Bibliography - online version, database CNB and News: CNB .
