The Library of L. Niederle

An inscription to L. Niederle in the first scientific monograph by the Indologist V. LesnýThe library of the Czech Slavist Lubor Niederle (1865–1944) reflects in its nature the scholarly breadth of its original owner, who is rightly considered to be the last great synthesist of many branches of Slavic studies. In his work, he covered all Slavs from their beginning until the current issues of the Slavic world. His library mostly comprises Slavic archaeology and prehistory, ethnography, historical geography, but also other disciplines relevant to the study of history, cultural, political and economic development of Slavic nations and Slavdom as a whole. Many of the publications contain dedications by their authors to Prof. Niederle, testifying to the reputation that Niederle enjoyed in both the Czech and international academic worlds.
