Ten years ago, on 25 May 2011, the Prague collection of 526 prints of university dispute theses kept in the National Library of the CR was included in the UNESCO´s Memory of the World Register.

The Prague NL´s series of 526 prints of university dispute theses is the largest collection of this kind in the world. All its items are related to the one and only institution: the Faculty of Arts of Prague University. Up to the present, the collection has been preserved in the place of its origin, i.e. in the Klementinum, a historical building of the former Prague Jesuit College, where is now headquartered the National Library of the CR. The collection originated between 1637 and 1754, covering the height of use of universities dispute theses at universities. Thanks to its span, the collection maps a gradual change of form of printed dispute theses almost without interruption, being thus considered a certain chronicle of Baroque iconography. This series of immense cultural-historical and artistic-historical value is an important source of knowledge of the content of philosophical studies at universities, closely related to the Jesuit Order. It also enables to extend our idea of period university ceremonies.

The collection 526 prints of university dispute theses belongs to the most precious series kept in the National Library of the CR. At the time of its inclusion on the UNESCO´s Memory of the World list, it became the third documentary heritage item from the Czech Republic, all three being kept in the National Library of the CR.

The Memories and Dreams of the Tropic of Cancer
1 June -15 September, 2021

A panel exhibition on the ground floor of the Klementinum maps modern Taiwan literature from the Japanese colonial period to the present. In the context of modern world literature, the authors and texts focus on the psychology of characters and the collective memory of the island. They change perspectives of its inhabitants and through fragments they build a whole atmosphere of memories shared across generations.
The display presents the work of Taiwanese authors hitherto unknown in our country and, at the same time, it builds on previous translations of Taiwanese literature, published in the Czech Republic after 2000. It also points to the traces left by the Czech Republic in the works of Taiwanese writers, its genius loci and the work of local authors. It thus offers a dialogue between two countries and the connection of literary worlds across continents.
The exhibition was prepared by the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, Tchaj-nan, in association with Mi:Lù Publishing and in cooperation with the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation International Sinological Center at Charles University.
The publication „The Memories and Dreams of the Tropic of Cancer“ is published on the occasion of the exhibition (Taiwanese authors of texts are: Tchung Wej-ke, Lü Che-žuo, Syaman Rapongan, Walis Nokan, Jang Čao, Li Jü, Čchiou Miao-ťin, Luo I-ťün, Wu Ming-i, Chuang Čchung-kchaj), 448 pages.
