Czech historical nativity scenes
16 November 2012 – 13 January 2013

Invitation  

The exhibition features a collecrtion of historical nativity scenes from the 18th century up to the beginning of the 20th century. They are on loan from the Museum of Nativity Scenes in Karlštejn. The dispayed exhibits are made of both traditional and less usual materials, such as wood, paper, glass, gingerbread, sugar, bread etc.

Entrance fee: adults 50 CZK; seniors, students, children 5-16 30 CZK; children up to 5 years free  


Destroyed Jewish Monuments of North Bohemia 1938 – 1989
January 23 – March 3 2013

Opening ceremony

The exhibition continues the project Destroyed Churches of North Bohemia 1945-1989. It presents photographs not yet published, archival documents and three-dimensional artifacts. It is organised by the Association for the Renewal of Monuments of the Úštěk Region, the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague, the Philosophical Faculty of University of J. E. Purkyně, the National Heritage Institute and the Jewish Museum in Prague in association with the National Library of the CR. Admission free.

Zuzana Kadlecová: Hebrew variations
9 November 2012 – 19 January 2013

Invitation

The display of paintings by Zuzana Kadlecová, a painter who was inspired by Hebrew stories and Jewish script, is complemented by artistic copies of Hebrew manuscripts from the historical collections of the National Library of the CR. Image and text meet each other in the common space to tell together a story. One of the immediate stimuli of the author´s interest in Jewish issue was the case of the Saraval Collection, monitored by media, which was one of many that were marked by the terrible consequences of the World War II.

Fiji, Various Views
January 30 – February 28 2013

The display features a collection of photographs taken by Petr Šůstka during his trip to the Fiji Islands. The images show local exotic landscape as well as everyday life in villages on smaller islands and in the capital Suva on the island of Viti Levu.

The Unknown People´s Republic of Belarus

January 18 – March 3 2013  

The exhibition presents newly discovered historical documents that bear witness to the formation of the Belarusian national sentiment and the establishment of Belarusian statehood in 1918. It is prepared with the support of the State Central Archives of Lithuania. Organised by the European Humanities University, Vilnius, Lithuania, and the Slavonic Library. The European Humanities University was established in Minsk, Belarus, in 1992. After its forced closure by the Belarusian authorities it moved to Vilnius, Lithuania.
